I’m going to be completely honest with you – I nearly forgot to write this. That’s not totally unlike me (I have many journals that I kept for a week or so before giving up.) However, I think I have good reason this time. You see, I’m currently in the middle of ocean.
Okay, technically I’m on an island. A tiny little thing of the coast of South Australia. Right now, I’m on holiday. Ideally, I would be in Scotland or Ireland right now. But there’s costs involved here, and I figured exploring a little of Australia wasn’t bad for my budget.
And it has been so worth it. I’m a lover of adventure and stories. That means for the past few days I’ve been seeking out as many experiences and historical stories as I can. I’ve seen penguins, dolphins, sea lions, seals, and learnt some local history and Dreamtime stories as well.
I like to think that all this helps with my creativity. I mean, it hasn’t inspired much in writing terms. (Although, if I ever write a book about mermaids, you could probably trace it back to this trip.) But I was once told that humans need to recharge their batteries in order to continue working well. In simpler terms, go have some fun and your work will turn out better in the long run.
But honestly, I’m just grateful to be able to experience so much in such a short time. (And that the wildlife has been good to me!)
Ah well, I’m off to explore more of this island. I’ll speak to you next week when I’m back in the real world. (Well, as real as it gets when writing fiction.)
